Lee
found himself in the business of modifying guitar amps for many of rocks
most notable guitarists. Steve Vai , Paul Gilbert , Zakk Wylde , George Lynch
and countless others have enjoyed Lees creations. At
age twelve Lee started playing guitar , he had been surrounded by music as
he was growing up , his parents owned a record store and he has two older
sisters which introduced him the sounds of the sixties. Lees father was into
electronics , he had a local repair shop , repairing anything from T.V`s
to Stereos , so when Lee got his first Tesco Del Rey Amplifier it wasn't
long before he was disassembling it to see how it worked and to get more
Power !. Lee started
playing in bands at sixteen , playing at the various
venues in Southern
California , he recorded his first album with a band named Atom , they
recorded it under a different name the" Ravers" , the album
was a short success with the song
"
Punk Rock Christmas". Because of being based in California it wasn't
long before other groups heard about the sound Lee had , It wasn't uncommon
to see well known musicians in the crowd of there shows. In the beginning
Lee was skeptical about modifying equipment for other bands , but as
you know playing in bands does not generate much in the money department
so It wasn't long before Lee started doing mod`s for some of the largest
names in the industry.Lee started working at B.C Rich Guitars in 1976 , his
job was putting the electronics in "Bitch" the
guitars and bass. While he was there he came up with the idea of the
Double neck guitar and the "Bitch" Bass , these came into life because the
band that he was in "Atom" wanted matching guitars and bass`s.
As Lees Double neck guitar was waiting to get painted ,Joe Perry from
Aerosmith came by and saw it and immediately wanted one , it wasn't long
before it was seen across the world in every magazine , Lee was not to
pleased , I guess that is the price when you come up with something that
looked that Cool. Lee
started working for Pignose Industries in 1978 , at this time Pignose
introduced the 150 Crossmix. This was an exciting little company , it
was started by Terry Kath of "
Chicago" as a write off , Terry created the first battery powered
portable amplifier , several years later it was bought by a lady name
Candis Fagen and shortly after that Lee started working for her. Pignose
had a Hostile take over which caused it to crumble shortly after ,
You will see that this is common as you read on. Lee had
met Paul Rivera earlier but started working for him in 1979 , Customizing
amplifiers and building Pedal Boards for most of the Music Industry
notables. This was a blast but both Paul and Lee knew that if they
wanted to reach the masses
they would have to hook up with a major company which brought both of them
to "Fender".
